In all single-family houses I know, fittings were only replaced during a renovation of the bathrooms. We left it as it was.

I hope you don’t assume that because of the water softener there are no stains? A normal water softener simply replaces calcium with sodium. Minerals aren’t really reduced much, so deposits still occur. They just don’t settle as firmly as calcium deposits.

No, I knew that. But also that it is easier to clean.

I meant more the ease of replacement. That they are practically replaced rather rarely is also clear to me.
But it was about the fact that after a few years you get tired of them or they are so out of fashion that you don’t want them anymore or even feel ashamed of them. And then it is relatively easy to replace the fittings...

That's why I wrote "relatively fixed". Changing is possible, but it's not done constantly. But sure, ornamental tiles or metro tiles are harder to replace.

Man is written with a capital M and two n's. Or do you mean who cleans? maybe one should simply question their taste: do you do it because it’s currently considered stylish, or do you do it because you really like it. Of course, every day on Pinterest and the like you see the mainstream uniformity... gray tiles, sheepskin on plastic chairs that are otherwise very cold... fashion doesn’t stop in the bathroom. I really like it! But personally, I resist having something in a conspicuous or inconspicuous way that the masses have. With fittings, the conspicuous way would be that chrome submits in its proven quality. It’s like white enamel. You don’t question that either. In short: some stylish decorative elements also make the bathroom “shine”, I would probably accept the option of later (expensive) replacement or frequent cleaning. I am sure: soon (in a few years) gray floors will no longer be popular, the industrial style and clean style will be replaced by a cozier furnishing. Neither the harsh contrast of white-black (fittings/sanitary) nor colorlessness will be desired then. But fashion is also meant to be followed if you like it. Otherwise, you would decorate your place totally passionlessly and boringly.

With us, it actually splits pretty much 50:50, so I really meant the generic one. And actually, I wasn't even speaking for myself. I do find the black fittings quite stylish and didn't know they were mainstream or fashionable. Before I discovered HGTV for myself at the end of last year, it was even rather unusual and new to me. Actually, I also think it can't be that mainstream yet if most manufacturers have at most one or two models in that color. Although the fact that even Aldi and Lidl sell black fittings is again a sign of that. Anyway, we will go for black fittings, at least in the bathroom. In the kitchen, it might still be copper or gold, depending on which side my wife slept on the day we buy the kitchen. It's actually funny that she decides that, even though cleaning the kitchen really falls into my area...
