Good day dear forum members,

I intend to build a single-story residential house at the beginning of the 2nd quarter. The construction project has 110 m² of living space and is designed for 2 people.

I am not yet satisfied with the bathroom planning. I have tried several variants, but somehow the arrangement of the sanitary facilities does not yet seem optimal to me.

On the right (eastern) side, there is a triangular window from the eaves to the gable, which is fixed; the other window to the north is still variable in width and location.

To the west, the utility room adjoins; to the south, I have established a guest WC. Unfortunately, the room cannot be made larger; rather, I would have to reduce it in favor of the utility room.

In the bathroom itself, I want a walk-in shower with a sliding door, a duo bathtub, and a large washbasin. The northern window should be freely accessible.

I have thought a lot about the guest WC, whether I even need it, and then just barely decided in favor of one.

Do you have any suggestions for improvement?

Best regards

Peter

Hello Peter,

personally, I find it unnecessary to create a guest toilet if it is located right next to the main bathroom. Your guests can just use the bathroom then. I would only make a guest toilet, for example, in a 1 1/2-story house so that guests don't have to go upstairs, but side by side? I would enlarge the bathroom and thus create a nice corner bathroom, but of course, that's a matter of taste.

Best regards

Hello Peter,

The triangular window is not floor-to-ceiling, right? And – if I understand your view correctly – is the window for the guest WC missing?

Attached you will find two quickly sketched proposals; in both versions of the floor-to-ceiling shower no glass/sliding door is required because the water does not splash far enough; a simple bath/sauna towel is sufficient. On the north side the 2nd window in version 2 makes sense – I would execute both as a light strip.

A guest WC is always good – even with two people both often share the same needs. And – speaking for myself, I don’t want a stranger in “my” bathroom ;)

Kind regards

Hello,
One should not do without it.
Maybe not that, but keep in mind in good time that if the heat generator of the heating system should be a heat pump and/or the heating surfaces are to be designed for the future, areas for an additional WH as a supplement to the underfloor heating should be provided in the bathroom in time!

Best regards

Hello,

and thank you very much for your answers and suggestions. The deciding factor for a guest toilet was indeed the consideration that 2 people might sometimes "need to go" at the same time, and then a second toilet is simply practical (even if the problem probably occurs rarely) - somehow also a form of luxury.

The triangular window is not floor-to-ceiling and extends from the eaves to the ridge. The guest toilet window is still missing in the drawing. Thanks also for the 2 sketches - I thought I had gone through all permutations of the possible arrangements, these two are new and worth considering!

The heating in the bathroom is connected to the heating in the whole house, but I have a special/individual situation in the living room that makes me waver between the 2 options. I will ask about this in the appropriate forum tomorrow - after 13 hours of work I am currently a bit too wiped out to formulate my questions eloquently....

Kind regards

Peter

I also find a guest WC important and will keep it in my place. You sometimes have to use two WCs - consider the quarantine phase : ) However, I find it more important for guests. I find it more comfortable to use a guest WC. The bathroom is a private matter, whether you are at friends' or strangers'.
