Children's room and guest room are much too small and hardly usable due to the sloping roof. The bedroom doesn't fit either. The bed is not 2m wide.

Right. Only 1.50cm.

I would recommend either trying it without a guest room or planning a renovation.
With a new roof, knee wall height increase, dormer windows, and maybe an extension if the space demand is really there.

Thanks already...

The stairway is next to the kitchen.

The cooktop is on the island, I think the kitchen unit still needs to be moved further forward and then an extended countertop placed on it to achieve the necessary headroom.

The bed is a normal 1.40 m and the bedside table is behind the bed. We have that now too and it works very well like this.

Yes, kids and guests are also what worries me the most.

Do you maybe have another answer if planning is allowed?

Does an architect do that? An interior architect? Or a draftsman?

Thanks, if you have more suggestions, just go ahead :-)

You should definitely go to the architect, who of course will cost money. But right now, I don't see an optimal living value... You saw it yourself: in your plan, the kitchen unit would have to be moved forward in order to work there at all. The living room is more like a cramped seating area with empty space in between, you can't stand at the desks, the toilet would also have to be moved forward, but then the washbasin won't fit. The architect can calculate costs for you, maybe an extension with a bay window or a dormer could increase the living space. The question that arises for me: does it really make sense to convert an attic of about 65 sqm of living space (I counted the roof slopes at half), or should you maybe look for another (somewhat larger or without slopes) apartment before burning money here just because an attic exists in the family? Also the ownership question: who will own the attic, who will invest the money and labor? Legally it will still belong to the father-in-law. Who will pay for the materials? Him or you? And what role remains for you? Edit: It still has to be less than 65 sqm, since the walls and stairway still have to be deducted :(

And you never want to have a bigger bed? Although you can hardly move around in the bedroom even with the 1.40m bed. Having only about 50cm of space next to the beds is way too little.

We currently have similar dimensions in our bedroom. Wall 50cm, bed 60cm, then a 40cm dresser, then wall. But you are right, there is a difference whether there is a wall there or as it is now a dresser...

The matter of ownership will be settled this year. The plan was that we take the attic and invest the money into it. But whether it’s possible to make only the attic our property still needs to be explained to us.....

A new own house would be a nice alternative, but unfortunately this will not be possible because it is all on a beautiful North Sea island and space is limited and therefore very, very expensive....

But if the 2-meter line does go through the desks, can’t I reach it standing there?!

But yes, it is all quite tricky.
