Since I work in the industry, I see the chaos on construction sites almost every day... When someone like Zaba is running around the construction site every day and in the evening goes over the spontaneous changes before and after three times in their head, it’s different from when someone says "we’ll just move the window" "yeah, we’ll do it."

I did write that one has to be constantly on site.

But even the shifted window, to stick with the example, is from my point of view not a potential for chaos, since it is changed during the shell construction and the subsequent trades work with the conditions then present.

In the worst case, in front of a shifted window there is a dirty water downpipe, the chimney, and on the outside the rainwater downpipe, the support of the carport, and the roof of the bay window somehow also get in the way. What might still be possible to shift on one floor becomes impossible on two or three. What looks harmonious on the architectural plans and is not noticeable during shell construction looks really terrible when finished. Suddenly, in the kitchen, the hanging cupboard is in front of the window because nobody thought about it, and because of the faucet, the window can no longer be opened. Well, surely all exaggerated, but so much nonsense happens in construction – you can’t even think that dumb.

Individual trade contracts, without a construction manager. We still didn’t hop around the construction site every day, since there was an hour’s commute in rush hour and two full-time jobs.

By the way, your example with the windows could call the structural engineer back into the picture and possibly even result in a concrete column somewhere if you get (much) bigger; the shell builder will be happy when the wall is already standing.

Well, if you suddenly move a window to where the carport is, or the gutter or the chimney, sorry that’s really stupid then. We had a civil engineer involved who of course approved the statics and so on.

And of course, we did not move the windows after the wall was already finished.

Ultimately, everyone must decide for themselves how they build and with how much effort.

But individual trade contracting does not have to be complicated, rather it offers more freedom.
