Thank you for the quick feedback.

:
This idea actually came to us as well, but only after the conversation with the structural engineer.
In doing so, we would indeed be opening up many load-bearing walls.
We will consider it.

:
Thank you for your suggestion, we looked at it and also found it interesting to get another perspective.
However, we prefer the classic layout with kitchen and living/dining area downstairs, children's room and bedroom upstairs.
For the future, however, we do not rule out moving the bedroom downstairs and leaving the upper floor to the children. Therefore, we want to have a complete apartment on the lower floor with living room, kitchen, dining area, bedroom, and bathroom.

Regarding the structural engineering, it is as 11ant wrote.
A rough assessment has already been made by the structural engineer and he has given his approval for both variants.
Of course, the structural calculations still need to be done and beams will also be necessary, which we will of course have installed by a specialist company. There should generally be no problems with this and the effort should be manageable.

@ant11:
Regarding the title, you are of course right and your estimate is very accurate, the house is roughly from 1970.
By "Altbau" I meant an existing property. Unfortunately, I can no longer change the title.
Maybe one of the moderators/administrators can take care of that. Thanks for that!

Further opinions, especially regarding the arrangement of the rooms, are welcome

Regards,
DW

Then you just take living in K1 and work/guest in K2. K1 and K2 then in the same place upstairs and parents separated in living ... Before that a play corridor or something.

Although I really like the suggestion from , especially because it makes sense to use 2 bathrooms. How old are your children?

Ground floor:
- Child 1/2
- Children's bathroom
- Kitchen
- Dining
Upper floor:
- Living (TV, sofa area)
- Sleeping
- Work/guest
- Bathroom
- Utility room

We also find the proposal interesting, especially that the two bathrooms can be used well in parallel.

However, we find the living space too small. Our actual wish is to have more and above all open living space.
The "Wintergarten" downstairs could not really be used meaningfully in your proposal, just as it is now.

We do not need a utility room of that size either, since we have a basement where there is a proper laundry cellar.
We can live well with that. Only a small storage pantry on the ground floor would be desirable. Possibly the supplies could also be accommodated in the kitchen, if it turns out to be large enough.

Best regards,
DW

Why not remove the floor plan wall to the kitchen, possibly insert steel beams and place a large kitchen island in the middle! I can very well imagine that looking great and stylish! Sorry, saw the above post too late!

What is too small about this living space ?

What do you do in the living space? When are you usually in the living space? What do you do in the kitchen / dining area? Eating here is practically the public living space and living the private living space.

Sorry, but we cannot imagine spreading the living room and kitchen/dining area over two floors. Simply because sometimes during the day or in the afternoon you sit on the couch, want to eat or drink something in between, or also go into the garden. For that, you would always have to change floors.

The conservatory would remain unused and the rooms quite small and closed off.

We will discuss Aphrodithe's proposal with the structural engineer, maybe that will work too. It would definitely be interesting.

DW
