Aligning the house on the plot: North-South / East-West, what should be considered?

Variants red or green do limit you in the south/west garden use. It is also important what exactly has to be accommodated in the house so that this can maybe be simulated with one or two approximately matching sample floor plans. Everything also includes garages/parking spaces/bicycle sheds/garbage cans etc.

Has the neighbor to the east built as indicated? Garage on the boundary and where is their terrace?

And, I don’t know if for the goal "maybe the offspring will build sometime" (when would be the earliest then?) I would now align the property so much to a second building. I would rather take the opportunity now to plan a house according to my needs and quite ideally for the property with all ancillary requirements. And then I would probably check whether, through fine-tuning, a second house might be possible.

The property has no slope - right?

no slope, all neighbors have built as shown. To the east there is a semi-detached house, the small box there is the garage of the left half, in front of it the driveway. Terrace facing south. As mentioned, the option of a second house is not so important right now. We would like to build the house more elongated anyway.

But you can work out the answer for yourselves. Consider all possibilities. The basic floor plan design must also conform to this.

yes, that's exactly what we're working on right now. I just thought there might be some wisdom to use, like, for example (purely fictitious example) that an open living concept with a long north-south side leads to uncomfortable lighting conditions or something like that.

That also depends entirely on the required rooms and their layout.

And as I said, don't forget photovoltaics, the south roof might be better for that.

Unfortunately, it is still too limited in scope to recognize, for example, actual building envelopes :-(
