Phew, I really stirred up quite a bit with the thread :)
First of all, thanks a lot for all the input I received from you. You're probably right, and you "grow into it" when you first move into the house and have enough time to deal intensively with the garden etc. The weather is ideal for that right now, but unfortunately we still live in our rental apartment...
The tip about the books was good too, I'll check that out sometime ;) And how the garden will be fenced in will only become clear after moving in (and in consultation with the new neighbors).
