Believe my entire household contents never cost 30K € new - we have no wallpaper, but alright; I understand what you mean... I will look into it a bit more closely.

Residential building + elemental for 120€ per year? Really good price. May I ask where? Because I still end up with prices of 300-350 for both

Huk 24. I think it's about ~144 € with a 300 € deductible.

Plaster/paint also absorbs smoke quite well. The problem with all these things is not so much the material, but the work to properly renovate the whole thing. And that is often difficult to do yourself, or it always turns out unplanned.

Same with water damage outside the wall. A colleague had a small sink in the attic. The hose under the sink developed a small hole and water escaped for over 2 weeks (he was on vacation). It traveled under the screed and through the empty conduits; among other places into the basement. Total damage of €120k; and 3 months not living in the house due to drying measures/renovation. Household contents/building insurance would have covered everything if not underinsured (this applies to household contents if under €650 per sqm).

Then the household contents insurance only pays proportionally to the value of the existing household contents. And that added up. His household contents were a mere €140k (he himself had always estimated about €70-80k), because people only think of furniture and things like that as household contents.
