We do not have household contents
but we are saving on the side... although I have to say that it is hard for me not to use the money for other purposes given the interest rates. On the other hand, I am even less motivated to look for the TAN list for the overnight money, so it has remained there so far.

Household contents insurance costs almost nothing in comparison, saving is okay but in my opinion at the wrong place here

I am of the opinion that insurance should cover existential risks and not serve as a worry-free cushion. It is unclear to me how broken furniture or 1-2 broken windows threaten my existence. But enlighten me where I am wrong.

Small smoldering fire. Smoke gases penetrate into wallpaper, furniture, and clothes. Everything must be replaced. Typical damage amount in a single-family house: €80k-€120k.

And the place is uninhabitable for 1 month.

That would also be my example! Happens more often than you think, e.g. due to carelessness or a technical defect (toaster, battery charging)
