Hello everyone,

we have a window measuring 1.26x1.26 in our property, which is to be renovated, leading to the carport.

My idea would be to replace it with a side entrance door about 1.00x2.00.
I still consider enlarging the window opening upwards and downwards to be relatively unproblematic.

But the window also has to become narrower. The house was built in 1980 and is faced with bricks.
I am already trying to organize the matching bricks in parallel.

Is such an action basically relatively easy to carry out, or am I inviting problems?

Maybe you can remove the bricks installed below and above the window in such a way that they can be reused. You only need 26 cm width and 1.26 m height. If you need to extend upwards, then you must also raise the lintel. Are there no pipes laid underneath the window (heating pipes)? Otherwise, this should not be a problem for a professional company from the construction sector, or do you want to do it yourself?

Under the window is a radiator, but it is supposed to be removed anyway. No, I do not want to do it myself. It should be properly done by a professional company. Just wanted to hear some opinions in advance on whether my desired ideas are even feasible.

Why not simply order a suitable door? If a professional company is going to do it anyway, they can deliver doors in any size. They can then build you a door that fits. There are different options. Either add a side panel or a wider frame. Or just take a door with a larger width. That will definitely look better than patching the masonry or the brickwork. You will always see that.

A door measuring 1.26x2.00 seems quite wide to me. I can't really imagine that. But I will also think it over.

Can a door be too wide? I wouldn’t make the passage narrower either, I wouldn’t take a side panel either, that would be too narrow. Better a wide frame then. Enlarging upwards is not so trivial. Downwards usually no problem. If it were my house, I would probably take a double-leaf balcony door, that also looks good in terms of width.
