We cook relatively often and rather expressively. In the current (rental) apartment, there is parquet flooring in the kitchen and we were very skeptical. There are some dents in it, otherwise you can see the wear marks, etc.
Now, for the house, we faced the same choice.
What helped us: seeing the parquet in the living room of the neighboring apartment (2 kids). With the kids, it’s bound to get worn anyway, so the few dents in the kitchen from cooking don’t make a difference. And visually it’s so much better in the open-plan living area!
