We cook relatively often and rather expressively. In the current (rental) apartment, there is parquet flooring in the kitchen and we were very skeptical. There are some dents in it, otherwise you can see the wear marks, etc.

Now, for the house, we faced the same choice.

What helped us: seeing the parquet in the living room of the neighboring apartment (2 kids). With the kids, it’s bound to get worn anyway, so the few dents in the kitchen from cooking don’t make a difference. And visually it’s so much better in the open-plan living area!

I would trust sealed parquet more than oiled. Seals are also available in matte, hardly any visible difference to oiled in my opinion.

Parquet flooring in the kitchen works perfectly. If something falls or splashes, just act immediately. If the parquet already has a texture, dents are less noticeable. Here, Weitzer oak parquet "Ice" with a strong brushed finish is installed.

We also have parquet flooring in the kitchen and have been using it for 6 months, and we already had parquet in the rental house before. So, water drops don’t really affect the (oiled) parquet as long as the water doesn’t stand for hours. We also simply wipe away grease splashes in front of the stove after cooking, just like with tiles. What I find more problematic on our parquet are really things that fall down and chairs or similar without felt gliders, which cause dents or scratches. We try to avoid that as much as possible.
