We have an open-plan kitchen in our future house. The living area is to have solid wood parquet flooring. At the wood store, the salesperson said that the parquet could also be laid in the kitchen without any problems, which would of course look much nicer than a separate tiled area. Who has had parquet in the kitchen for a longer time and can report?

We are facing exactly this question as well. Visually, it looks great. However, I cannot imagine that parquet is practical in the kitchen.

We had the same "problem" and heard many different opinions. We will now tile between the island and the countertop and lay parquet on the rest. That way, you can hardly see the tiles from the dining area. Something special regarding shape and pattern will go there. Maybe an idea for you too?

There is plenty on Pinterest & co. With us, the screed still needs to be dried out.

We have parquet flooring in the kitchen. I have to say that you have to be careful not to let water stand on the parquet. I simply wipe away small water splashes with my feet/socks. In front of the sink, we have a small rug in a similar color. That's because when you wash dishes and want to dry your hands, water drips onto the floor if you hang the towel on the handle of the drawer. Sometimes the rug is also pushed in front of the cooking area. So there's definitely some extra effort involved. But I wouldn't want different floor coverings in the open-plan living area. At first, we considered laying tiles in the kitchen area. But then we abandoned that idea because a sensible separation of the floor coverings wasn't possible. So parquet works in the kitchen, you just have to be more careful and also accept some stains. Scratches appear in parquet sooner or later anyway. But we still wouldn't want anything else. Everyone has to decide for themselves.
