From this attitude it follows that you also pay well for good work. You simply don't go to the cheapest or those who let themselves be haggled like crazy. The quality does not suffer because it can't be done. It suffers especially when the relationship between client and contractor is disturbed. Most common triggers: power struggles, know-it-all attitude, greed & stinginess, unclear communication, poor handling of mistakes, lack of trust & need for control.

That is called an audit. Depending on how big the customer is, it can lead to tense situations. Something like that on a construction site would be a dream: simply measure the dimensional accuracy and record deviations. And suddenly you lose the certification and are not allowed to build anything anymore.

uh, not from the customer though. The house rules still apply. For example, my work is audited every year. ... but that has nothing to do with the discussion here.

... you are mistaken, there are some business areas where supplier audits, that is an audit by the customer, are inevitably part of the process. Otherwise, no supply is allowed. I’m just saying pharma, automotive, etc.

However, this now has less to do with the discussion and the example I want to give the OP, who imagines just barging into the manufacturing process... And herself as an employee receiving a visit from her customer
