Hello everyone,
I’m completely new here and happy that there is an Ikea forum :)
Now I’ll come straight to a question and hope that maybe I can find some help here?
For my office at work, additional storage spaces / shelves for my materials (books, binders, copied flat Din.A 4 pages, shallower boxes and cases up to 30cm wide) should be purchased as soon as possible.
Since most of the furniture already in the room is from Ikea (estimated from about 6-17 years ago), I am strongly inclined to get the missing shelves also from Ikea…
But which ones? I have already looked at Billy, Kallax, ..., Molger? on the Ikea site, but I’m not sure which of these or if something completely different makes sense..
Here is a description of what the room looks like and what I need:
Walls painted pale yellow, large gray, marbled (ancient) PVC tiles, in one corner a beige carpet with sporadic coarse pattern (with dark shapes).
A) When you enter the room, on the left wall there is a half-high wardrobe from Ikea from 1999 (127cm high) in a light wood tone (real wood veneer birch / maple, darkened) (in the upper part behind the doors are 4 square compartments, below there is a pull-out hanging file folder).
Next to it stands a black 3x3 compartment shelf (height & width 114.5 cm, depth 39.5cm) with thick side panels and narrower medium brown inner shelves (I suspect Expedit?).
Afterwards there is a gap about 45cm wide into which a shelf should go (question 1), with maximum dimensions of 40cm wide & deep, 70-100cm high.
B) Then comes my rectangular desk in a light wood tone (a kind of coating, rather light beech-colored) with silver legs and
C) Next to it a rolling container with 5 drawers all in light wood tone like (A) (real wood veneer birch / maple, darkened), with silver-colored pillars and wheels, also Ikea from 1999.
At a right angle to this is a double window, below which is the radiator.
Under the right window, basically to the right next to the radiator towards the wall, I would like a shelf (question 2), max. 30cm deep and max. 90cm high and up to 60cm wide.
D) On the wall opposite the desk & black shelf is another rectangular table (for practical work), identical to the desk (B), light beech-colored coated.
Afterwards on the wall there is a gap for which I am also looking for a shelf (question 3): max. 40cm wide, max. 40 cm deep, 100-106 cm (max!) high.
E) After that is a seating area with 2 blue Ikea armchairs (like Tullsta) and a small round coffee table with one matte glass shelf (also in light darkened wood tone birch / maple like (A) and (C)).
Between the rear armchair and basically next to the door there is space for another shelf or a closed cabinet (question 4) with a maximum of 30cm depth & 50-60 cm width and max. 80cm height.
I thought that the additional furniture should preferably also be in a light wood tone, matching the first wardrobe (A), rolling container (C) & coffee table. I have a serial number from the rolling container: 300.210.77, Made in Sweden, Ikea Systems B.V. 1999.
The large black shelf, the blue armchairs and the gray floor already create a certain darkness…
However, the existing furniture pieces are 17 years old and accordingly darkened, a nice warm light wood tone.
Do you think that something from the current Ikea range in birch would fit?? Or something else? And what exactly would you recommend?
At first I tried to describe the room and only afterward someone kindly made the sketch for me, now I have uploaded both for you...
Thank you very much for reading and best regards!
