Hello everyone,

first of all, thank you very much for your answers :) Our goal is not to heat exclusively with wood, but rather to use a combination of gas / firewood. I have found various combinations online, but I am not sure how sensible they are... When it comes to heat pumps, the high electricity costs deter me, as these (my personal opinion) will increase drastically in the coming years... Therefore, the idea was to use photovoltaics with storage. But I already realize that there is no "perfect" solution... There are simply too many solutions... :( We had also considered going to an energy consultant, but then again we are afraid that he might be fixated on one technology...

Hi,

that sounds like a sensible plan. Although presumably the extra cost for a system that can also heat the hot water with firewood is so high that it doesn’t make financial sense. It’s like this: a modern new building needs so little heating energy that further investments to save another 20% simply no longer pay off. For a gas heating system, expect monthly costs of 50-75 €. A 20% saving then amounts to just 180 € per year. It makes no sense to spend tens of thousands of euros on that.

If I were in your position, I would probably design the underfloor heating so that I can connect any heating technology to it (that is, lay the heating pipes close enough together) and have a nice tiled stove installed, which can also partially heat the adjacent rooms and the upper floor through cleverly installed air ducts.

Best regards,

Andreas

Compare user reports in engine forums about what mixed operation alternating between gasoline and gas does to valves, spark plugs & co: all-burners can hardly be optimized for all media simultaneously. I only see a heating concept with alternating energy carriers as reasonably feasible with separate optimized systems. They can power the same radiators, but not from the same boiler.

A friend built a house about 2 years ago. He opted for underfloor heating in combination with an air heat pump including a central ventilation system. Additionally, he has a fireplace that is water-operated. Maybe that is an alternative for you.
Geothermal energy apparently was not an option, as drilling was not really economical in our area due to the stone ground. He did not want ground collectors.
Good luck with your decision. I believe no matter what you choose, there will always be critics and supporters. The important thing is that you find the best solution for yourselves.
There are also people who are still roaming in the forest and chopping wood at the age of 70. Maybe it keeps you young. Then your wife benefits from it too ;-)

And you can also prepare a photovoltaic system and decide later to implement it. At least that’s how I will do it.
