No, we really didn’t and still don’t use any external help here. The only one who helped a bit was my sister-in-law’s carpenter friend. And he was properly paid for it, so that doesn’t really count. I would ask others, but unfortunately I have the syndrome of getting really angry every time about the work I didn’t do myself. The windows and doors are installed crookedly, something sticks out somewhere or isn’t properly laid... that happens here and there to me too, but I didn’t learn the work and am not paid for it. One time my father-in-law wanted to help and chisel out the screed... so he came, put the lever on 2-3 times. The rest was done by my husband. I then had to carry the rubble pile of 1.3 tons myself, 66 steps up to the container. Quote from father-in-law at the end of the first workday: “That pile will be gone by tomorrow, girl.” I even managed that. And on the second day he came and drank one beer after another while we worked. That’s when I somehow lost the desire, especially since beforehand he always got furious when he saw me carrying beverage crates (“the motherbands!!”) and then praised himself at some family dinner because he had done SUCH hard work chiseling the screed. That still makes me have violent fantasies today.

The shell house is not critical. Just very demanding in every aspect. I have already expressed myself here in the forum very adequately and as objectively as possible in other threads.

I know this because I accidentally built a shell house in the recent past.

A construction site lasting for years is usually not recommended at all, because costs continue simultaneously. The only solution: don’t do things by halves. Go all out! Until you can’t take it anymore. But then everything and everyone suffers for over a year. I’m glad that, of all things, my marriage became stronger because of it!

And friends: The best way is to invite them to come and see, I have already lost some that way, because I no longer had time and towards the end was annoyed and stressed (in other words: no longer nice... I just couldn’t anymore).

Sorry, but something like that is really pure sheer horror when it comes to proper interaction among adult people. Personally, I think: That's just not acceptable.

A construction site costs nothing if you live on it In the rental apartment, I wouldn’t have wanted to stay, regardless of the costs. Simply because it was a rental apartment. If you live on the construction site, you also don’t have long distances to work
Once after buying the house but before moving in, I thought I could drive to the construction site and do something there. By the way, it was 25 km. After an hour, I was standing at the bus stop of the bus that goes up here. It came and left me standing. The next one was not for another hour. So I turned back. The bus ride also takes an hour plus 45 minutes walking. Somehow it makes little sense to have 6 hours of travel time to then work 1-2 hours. And so it was postponed until after moving in.
Whatever, we are doing well here and my husband isn’t bothered by the 1 cm layer of construction dust on everything either. Only on Christmas decorations I lost interest somehow.

Yes - living on the construction site was also an option for me. But then at some point there was an "endless run" and then, thank God, it was no longer necessary.

My wife – at my strong request – only very rarely came to (symbolically) help (tearing off tape, holding something on a Sunday). During the construction period, however, she supported me in other ways.

Building and craftsmanship are not really my wife's thing. She was glad about the way we solved it.

My wife then did my laundry (which I usually do myself, but we kept that good new habit *happy*) and always cooked me very tasty meals (also late at night), cheered me up, nicely decorated the interim apartment, and so on. In return, I didn’t want to see her in the dust and dirt, guaranteed her: Somehow (?) I’ll manage that. She trusted me. She understood me. I thought that was great. In the end, it worked (my poor 50-year-old creaky bones :confused .

Well, of course she also visited me in the hospital when I had once again smashed my head somewhere, building is not exactly without danger, despite protective clothing.......

Christmas night decoration is a must......

Well, I find the whole construction site thing quite exciting. I always say I just need a finished bathroom and kitchen, if necessary I'll even sleep in the kitchen everything else can wait^^ The problem then would just be, where to put the furniture ... not so easy :/
