We also have sockets in the window reveals and I find it terrible... you can certainly use them nicely for the Christmas lights, but as soon as something is plugged in there, you can hardly open the windows either.
If I put the plug into a wireless socket or timer switch, the window doesn't even tilt open properly anymore. Especially my wife likes to "tear" the windows open, no matter how often I have told her to be careful...
Especially in the bathrooms, when the reveal is tiled and then a socket is installed, it can get very tight at that spot. In our guest bathroom, for example, the window does not open fully 90 degrees because there is not enough space.
