It’s just badly planned. Usually, you have two sashes and place the socket on the side where the window doesn’t need to open. With controlled residential ventilation, though, it’s no problem anymore.We also have sockets in the window reveals and I find it terrible... you can certainly use them nicely for Christmas lights, but as soon as something is plugged in there, you can hardly open the windows.
If I put a smart plug or timer switch on the plug, the windows don’t even open properly anymore when tilted. Especially my wife likes to "fling" the windows open, no matter how many times I’ve told her to be careful...
Especially in the bathrooms, when the reveal is tiled and then a socket is installed, it can get very tight in that spot. In our guest bathroom, for example, the window doesn't open fully to 90 degrees because there's not enough space.
