Hi,

of course you are not naive.

What Nordanny said, however, is correct.

Although we laid the necessary cable, we were unable to present the required documents (including *current and valid* DIBT certificate for the chimney and ventilation system, which also covers the functionality of the fire feature and fire booster) and after a longer conversation, it went ahead without UDW.

The latter is certainly rather the exception than the rule.

It is a discretionary scope that the BSFW has; the decision for/against UDW was made at the very end after reviewing all circumstances on site.....before that, the issue was open and rather in favor of UDW.

Best regards
Thorsten

One should not rely solely on the DiBt chimney for self-protection - because eventually the seals wear out too

I gladly paid the 380 euros for the guardian for the sake of my family.

It triggered recently as well, when the oil heater was burning away cheerfully and thus caused negative pressure

Absolutely right. Seals on wood-burning stoves are wear parts.

My stove fitter comes by once a year to check on it.
(also with my first wood-burning stove 2000-2006).

At the slightest indication, I always have the seals replaced.

Thorsten

Our chimney sweep recommended installing a pressure switch because then we don’t need a DiBt-certified stove, which means a larger selection of models. Certified stoves are usually more expensive, so the cost with a pressure switch plus a non-certified stove comes out about the same.
He also said that with a room size of about 70 sqm (open kitchen+living-dining area), we don’t necessarily need a room-air-independent stove.
Since we will probably install an exhaust-controlled residential ventilation system with decentralized wall vents anyway, there will be fresh air supplied...
Tomorrow I’m going to a fireplace specialty store again. Let’s see what they advise us.

@ fenix.... how should your pressure switch be installed? All decentralized fans wired to the switch? Do you already have any information on that?

No. These are only decentralized passive wall valves without fans. My knowledge on this matter is still very limited. I will inquire with the stove maker tomorrow.
