Hello everyone

I came across an interesting house with an old tennis court that is very affordable. According to the documents, it looks like the tennis court is made of concrete. We would prefer to have a garden there. I just tried to estimate the size of this court. It’s probably around 450m2.... Can anyone estimate what costs we might face to remove it and fill it with soil? Is there even a chance to do this yourself with a rented excavator, or is it better to hire professionals?
Thanks in advance

Unfortunately, the thickness of the concrete is missing in terms of cost.
And for the duration, also whether reinforced/unreinforced.

Google a container service near you to find out what they want for a ton of concrete.
Roughly estimated €1,500 disposal + rental of the container, depending on how long you need it.

What kind of soil do you want to fill with? Topsoil / sand?
If it mainly should be cheap, go to a new development area and talk to the builders there. They should have excess soil.
Share the transport costs and then you have the hole filled for a few hundred euros.

Get a proper excavator + chisel, not a mini excavator. Best to start once beforehand with the classic Bosch hammer so you find out at the beginning the thickness and yes/no steel.

If you have time and can work with an excavator: Have fun with it ;)

Thank you for your helpful answer. The tip about soil from new development areas is very helpful. I will definitely try that. Yes, it should be rather cheap, since we also want to invest some money in upgrading the house and won’t have a lot left over...;) Do you mean the 1500 euros per ton or total? That would be quite a few tons... I have never operated an excavator. So I don’t know if I can or am allowed to operate such a machine at all. I’ll check that.

You may - but you have to decide if you can.

The pure construction debris container with 7cbm (max. 7t) costs about 300€, contaminated construction debris (i.e. with slight soil adhesions) about 400-500€. Could turn out to be an expensive affair...

Yes... the €1,500 is more to be seen as "from" €1,500.
Calculate about €15 per ton + container.
Loading onto a semi-trailer is easier, but since you will be slow, better into the container...
If it is mixed with steel and you only deliver large chunks, it quickly becomes €50/t!

Near the tennis court, I don't expect any construction... so it's the best excavator practice area!

Yes, it's definitely a good excavator training ground... ;). There are neighbors, but all far enough away that I shouldn't drive their house over... ;) I'm more worried about the noise disturbance when hammering on the concrete there for days. I could budget around 10,000-12,000 euros for the whole "remove tennis court" project. Do you think that would be enough? Even if I had to hire someone for the excavator?
