Windows not only facing south in the children's rooms. In summer, shading is necessary, and then the side windows can remain open.

We do not want additional windows in the east because it would simply be too much (no space for storage). The only option would be to split the windows, but our east side is not nice (there is a house right next door). It would be a shame for the beautiful south side. But the topic of shading is an important issue, especially in the children's rooms. What would you choose? Venetian blinds (how do the slats behave in the wind), roller shutters, or a special sun protection?

Roller shutters. It is quite windy here and the slats become noisy.

You have about 3 months a year when the south side is closed and the rooms have little or no daylight from noon until sometime in the evening. Given the room size, an east or west window is probably possible.

I estimate for us that we will not completely darken the rooms. But of course, at 37 degrees it does get hot. I have already seen at Weru that in such a roller shutter box there is also a sunshade integrated that can be extended separately. Does anyone have experience with something like that? And what kind of cooling technology can be integrated into a new build? Ideally, light should come in and the heat stay out.

We currently live with large terrace doors facing south and I will never do that again. In summer, we have to darken the whole day and it still gets hot. Even in winter when the sun is shining, we close them because otherwise it quickly heats up to 25 degrees. I find it very unfortunate to have to sit in the dark in nice weather.

Shading saves cooling technology

Shade windows after sunlight exposure
Ventilation off during the day
Ventilation on at night and additionally ventilate
This year we never had more than 23 degrees
