So, if he has ordered the box for his construction site, one should already take countermeasures in due time.

With us, every builder was responsible for their own construction power box / construction water... if the neighbor hasn't ordered one, I don't just take someone else's electricity without asking. It may be that the neighbor doesn't even know, but without construction power/water, there is no start of construction. And as a builder, one should think about it in good time and, if necessary, ask for permission if I have forgotten to organize something myself.

Objectively, you are obviously right. Let's stay human, your neighbor maybe didn't know because he is building for the first time, or he forgot in the construction stress or whatever. Because you insist on your right, should the crew leave again and maybe even make your neighbor pay for the idle day? Currently, craftsmen are scheduled continuously, often even for weeks. If there is no switch today, they will only come back in a week or even after the vacation and everything else is delayed enormously because of that, etc. Just consider how much you might help him with your "simple" accommodation or harm him if you insist on your right....

Good thing we don't live next to each other.

The easiest thing is to kindly speak to the neighbor (so known and reachable) or otherwise the construction workers to clarify the whole matter amicably. That is, so that one would definitely have understanding if it were necessary for some reason, but would have liked to have been asked, and then perhaps one could also talk about reimbursement of costs. Depending on how the "other side" reacts, one should keep in mind that one will continue to have dealings with the neighbor for a long time.

But the whole thing is not exactly clean/fair, yet it is nothing to start a quarrel over. Rather, it is much better to address/resolve the whole thing in a relaxed and uncomplicated way.

I also built for the first time back then... I took care of construction electricity and water well in advance. It shouldn’t be my fault that work can’t start. When day X approached and the water association kept failing to organize the construction water for ages, I went to my neighbor beforehand and asked if it would be a problem, if we had to run a hose over to his place. Everything was fine and agreed upon... but in the end, it wasn’t needed after all.

So if the neighbor missed something, he should make some effort to fix it.

If the general contractor is responsible, that’s pretty audacious. Because they know when they need what...

I’m not saying he should shut off the box, go over there and demand 50 euros. But in my eyes it would be okay to at least inquire why someone is using your connection without your knowledge and for how long.

Whether you’d rather live next to the neighbor who simply taps your electricity or next to the one who asks you beforehand is up to you.

Not from a fence that doesn’t even exist yet, definitely not

First, discreetly gauge whether it was pragmatism or audacity, don’t make a mountain out of a molehill, and don’t forget that one hand washes the other. If this is mutual, then that’s good. In the current phase, not only the foundations for the houses are being laid, but also for the neighborhood relations.

Somehow everyone here is right, every opinion has its pros and cons (-:

I’m also for good neighborliness, precisely for that reason ask beforehand ....

Unfortunately we are always at the construction site when everyone is gone and I also don’t have the phone number of the neighbor (across the street) ...

We have now agreed with his construction company that they simply pay us for the construction power used or taken (-; ...

I understand all that about wanting to get started etc. pp ... but we have a construction sign, it would have been easy to contact us and that was essentially what mattered to me .... to hand it over yes, but just ask beforehand ....

At least I would never do something like that without asking ....
