Hello everyone!

For our single-family house new build, the shell is mostly finished and next week the roof truss will be installed and covered. Unfortunately, the delivery of the windows is delayed, so the building would be open for about 4 weeks.

During this time, the electrician and drywall installer could work. But since this would be too dangerous in an openly accessible house (theft, etc.), the question arises how the windows can be temporarily sealed? I was thinking of OSB boards on the ground floor and foil in wooden frames on the upper floor.

1. Do you know any other sealing methods and
2. would it be too dark inside for the electrician/drywall installer, or would they manage with this?

Thanks and best regards!

The electrician can come by for at least 2-3 days to mark and chase. I personally have laid cables even without windows. He doesn’t necessarily have to use the expensive CAT cable right away. For a standard single-family house, the power cables don’t cost 1000€. It’s actually not even worth stealing any of it. Whether they do it or not also depends on their order volume. Just give them a call, but don’t worry too much.

Often the Elis do not want to come in yet because they also want to leave their tools behind to not have to carry so much the next day. I closed it with OSB, but for me it was only about the front door, stairwell window, and guest WC window. That means darkness was not the problem... But yes, talking to them is the easiest.

Thank you for the answers! The craftsmen are in favor of a closure. The question about the closure method (besides OSB) is still on my mind… is there anything else from your perspective?

We will seal and lock at least one room until the windows arrive. Then tools etc. can be stored there.
