Yes, it will probably be something like that. But I am not looking here for experiences that I want to hear, but for normal, real experiences. I myself know many people who have made compromises on their original plans because of an inheritance (because it was much cheaper to take the inherited house) and nearly all of them regret it afterwards (compromises in location, size of the houses, layout, forced cohabitation with parents/in-laws due to their housing rights, etc.). And these are not acquaintance-of-an-acquaintance experiences but from the close circle of friends and even family. And that is exactly the trap we don’t want to fall into.
As I said, my girlfriend is now moving here to the countryside, 30km out. Then you really stand out in the sticks here. But they want it that way, it’s not because of the money. They could definitely afford a townhouse. Fortunately, houses there only cost about a third. But above all, they WANT it that way. I envy them a little bit for that. Sometimes we wished we could imagine that for ourselves too. Then we could buy a nice existing house in nature for 120,000 and renovate it nicely.
