Hello everyone!
We have a REH from 1921 with good insulation and also new windows from 2017, purchased in 2017. Unfortunately, so far without external shading. Our house stays cool for a long time, but the longer a heatwave lasts, the more it heats up. With several days of over 30 degrees Celsius, even the best insulation simply gives in. The living room and one children's room face east, and in summer the sun relentlessly beats down on them until about 1/2 pm, and on those facing west, the sun comes around at about that time as well. So we now want to retrofit external shading as heat protection. Below you can see the types of windows we have. The bottom sashes cannot be opened. There is no electricity at the reveals.
According to my current research, the only reasonable solution here somehow remains the solar roller shutter. Electrically operated would probably be too much effort for retrofitting, manually would mean drilling into 4-year-old windows (cold bridge/thermal bridge?). They are PVC-aluminum windows, which we did not skimp on. Then there are a number of clamp blinds, but they are excluded because of the bottom sashes and operability, right?
What is really important to us first and foremost is heat protection. We could also live with external venetian blinds, provided the operation works. Since we all like to sleep in the dark, very good blackout would also be good, although we already manage quite well with the internal blinds. We are among those people who still air out in the morning during heat and then lock everything up until the evening because otherwise, we really can't stand it; so we are definitely not sun worshippers. The reveals have an external depth of 22.5 cm, so there is quite a lot of space for solutions in the niche.
I wanted to make use of your collective knowledge. Sometimes you can’t see the forest for the trees or see problems where there are none.
Attached are the types of our windows.
