Hello everyone,

most people have their solar systems on the house roof. I wonder why? Wouldn't it also be possible to install the system on the garage roof? I see the following advantages:

- No scaffolding necessary
- Battery not in the house
- Direct current not in the house
- cheaper installation

Surely I am overlooking something, probably it is technically not possible because the electrical box is in the house, right? What kind of connection would one have to provide, can't you install another meter and fuse box in the garage?

The garage roofs are often simply too small compared to the house roof. Nevertheless, small systems can also be found on garage roofs or both.

At our house (single-story with a gable roof), the photovoltaic system was just installed. A proper scaffold was not necessary for this; the workers had a small mobile one. Where the battery is located does not really matter, right? They could certainly have installed it in the garage or vice versa. We would have only been able to fit a fraction of the modules on the garage that we have now on the roof.

A colleague of mine has mounted his photovoltaic system on supports on the double garage. It all works, it's just not that big. Since there is a scaffold anyway during the new construction, it can be used directly for the photovoltaic system. All in one go

What else comes to mind: Garages are often located on the boundary as border development. I believe that a solar system on top is not easily possible because it might become too high?

....and carports and double garages are mostly attached to the west or east side of the house, so the house usually casts a shadow on the area and thus the systems there do not produce efficiently. Also no comparison to hipped roofs with modules on 3 sides.
