Hello, I somehow don't like grout lines in the bathroom and had been looking for a solution for groutless walls in the area of the shower and bathtub. Of course, I came across microcement (e.g. Beton Ciré). However, I would like a smooth wall with a uniform color appearance. In the pictures on the internet that you find when googling, the walls are almost always somewhat textured and checkered. Therefore the question: Can you also create a uniformly colored and rather smooth wall with microcement? According to my contractor, yes, but you hardly find corresponding pictures. Does the material then have a different name? Best regards

Does color-uniform mean to you that it looks like it is painted? That won't work. A very homogeneous and even color, yes. The wall is smooth anyway - baby-bottom smooth.

Alternatively, XXXL tiles. They come in really large formats.

Both, however, are associated with high surcharges.

Yes, I actually meant uniformly colored and not so "spotty," as you know it from exposed concrete, for example. I asked about smooth because, according to my understanding, it is applied in several layers of putty. In some pictures, it looks like you can still see the application marks from the putty and the wall is not smooth.

Overall, the appearance would then be close to a painted wall. Since you denied that, it would be great if you could explain that a bit.

Best regards

It’s true, you can see the trowel marks. But only visually, not to the touch.

Close indeed, but you will always see that it has some variation and is not painted.

Is it somehow controlled during the process whether it becomes uniform or rather variable? Possibly through the technique of application, number of layers, drying times, or similar?

As in the image below, that would actually be too much for me.

Sure, that's why I gave my example of what a uniform look looks like. It won't get "better," at best it will be more uneven. You will ALWAYS be able to see that it’s not a paint coat.

Then switching to tiles is your only option if it’s too much for you. Unfortunately, you have to choose one or the other.
