Great, thank you very much. Then I guess I’ll give it a try :)

Great description. This is a sensible approach for many who do not want to have KNX installed by a professional company right away. In particular

I’m still interested in whether you are using a central control system like OpenHAB or Home Assistant, or if the individual parts operate independently of each other.

Hello Karl,

I only have one other "external" system running - the Homebridge.

Why: we are Apple users and bring all devices into HomeKit. With an AppleTV or iPad you already have a control center including certain basic automations, presence detection, etc. I use Homebridge to integrate the Ring intercom. Eufy can natively do HomeKit. Within HomeKit I have simple automations: e.g. camera armed when nobody is home. Otherwise, you have all devices again in "one interface" there. Later with Thread/Matter everything will be natively integrated there.

I also have a homekit bridge. This way I can also access KNX. Logic, scenes, etc. are controlled by KNX. It runs faster and also works if the internet goes down. The functions in Homekit are also limited. No security-relevant things are integrated.

Correct - it's all a matter of expectation. That's why I explicitly wrote that I don't consider our home a smart home. ;)

@

I have another question about your Eufy cameras.
What is the range of the cameras to the Homebase?
Is the connection always stable?
How long does the 16GB internal storage last?

Would you recommend the Eufys again or would you say to use POE cameras if possible?
I only want to record when motion from people is detected.
I definitely want to power the cameras with electricity, so no battery operation.

The video doorbell should also be able to work together with the cameras and definitely be continuously powered like the cameras (and most likely also connected to LAN).
Video doorbell normally powered and LAN only for internet connection or doorbell connected to POE?
