At this size, it cannot make the turn when backing out. That’s what it’s about. Or the sandbox in the east has to give way, which I consider the lesser evil. As soon as it alternatively becomes even smaller in footprint, it becomes a tower. Appeal corner is then another option that the original poster is currently considering.

Unfortunately, this is not our decision alone. We just got the hinterland half on the right side cheaply and now we have to make the best of it. Our idea was a very small front yard and the smallest possible distance (3 meters to the north) to the neighboring property and to use these areas for parking spaces.

The south and east are undeveloped by the neighbor, which is nice, and towards the east there are large oaks, etc. Of course, this means that not much sun comes through in the morning, but on the east side it is also undeveloped and well, considering that it is only a 10-minute walk from the city center and a small property, it is still quite green there.
The south is then used about half as a terrace and the east purely as a garden/play area.

As said: I find the suggestion of shifting the house to the east interesting, but the garden towards the east seems more valuable to us.

But just for your information: meanwhile, row houses are being built on 150m² plots and semi-detached houses on 200 m². Whether that is nice is another question. But I think that if we plan it like this (i.e., not using such areas for cars), many city dwellers would be very happy. You just can’t compare it to the countryside. The location is the huge plus for us. With 1000m² in the countryside, for example, we could do nothing. And we had also already looked at semi-detached houses with 250m² and it was not that it was not an option.

But with an eastward shift, you would have a more multifunctional area that can be used in the west/south. Lots of small sections are not always better. And sandboxes for children are a temporary situation, whereas I actually find the sandbox under observation from the standard terrace more practical anyway. Because sandbox children are usually not left alone.

You have to get away from this idea… …because it is not. You don’t need a front garden. You need a multifunctional area, or rather a turning space. Children don’t play in the garden forever, only a few months a year, and there are alternatives for that on the area. Since you don’t need a 12-meter terrace either, the area can be easily shared with children. Caretaking does not happen just around the corner, but side by side with visual contact. I cannot see at all on these 6 pages that you understand that you need to change something in the planning and not always insist on the kindergarten.

... who, by the way, is six years older than you and assumes the reference is to Rolf and I already didn’t want our little siblings there. The moms could of course watch us from the kitchen windows, but being closer to our sandcastles wouldn’t have been welcome either. Sandboxes are in a way man caves ;-)
