I cook at home - we also have larger pans and pots. An edge is annoying there because the cookware cannot just stand freely over the stove.
By the way, it does not get in the way when cleaning.

However, those who rarely stand at the stove, do not cook that often... and are therefore not aware of the pros and cons, won't care at all and will rather focus on preserving the edges intact forever.
