Should satellite TV still be installed in the new building at all?

Hello,

we are currently planning our semi-detached house.

I wanted to know your opinion on [SAT TV].

Would you still rely on [SAT] in a new building?
So far, I have had good experiences with [SAT].

A friend of mine told me that from 2024, fees will also be charged for [SAT] (similar to cable fees for cable TV).

Is that true? What is that about the fees?

Does [SAT] still make sense at all?

Yes, I watch a lot of streams and media libraries, but for live sports I currently still use [SAT].

You can also get live sports via streams. We have been [Stream Only] since 2015 and miss nothing from the (ur)old world.

Please use the (unfortunately poor) search function for this often discussed topic in this forum. What kind of ominous SAT tax is that supposed to be? Will someone go through the village and check who has a SAT dish and whether they already have a "dog tag"? Of course, I’m not 100% sure, but I consider that nonsense. I installed SAT just a year ago and would do it again.

It is a very cheap way to watch free TV. Although on a large TV the SD offerings of the private channels are a disaster. So HD+ and costs. I would still always install it – I myself mostly use streaming – at least the dish, one could also use SAT over IP and no longer need SAT distribution.

I think I can give the all-clear

in the meantime I have done more research and found little to nothing about SAT fees

it was once said that the SD channels would disappear (then you would need a subscription for HD+) but these have also been extended

but I have not found any general fee for SAT to be able to receive it (like with cable TV)

So you would all still have SAT installed at least as a backup?

what do you think about SAT over IP?
is it something to consider or better to take the normal classic one?

Sat is basically relatively inexpensive when it comes to material and installation costs. Therefore, it can still be installed with a clear conscience. Definitely lay the cables in a conduit in order to possibly switch to another technology in the future. However, I would no longer install Sat in all rooms as was common in the past, but only where a TV is actually going to be today.

Much more important than Sat wiring, I see a well-developed network for smart devices and for access points for the WLAN.

What you ultimately decide depends on your own wishes and needs.
