Hello,

we are planning a precast concrete garage with the dimensions 6m x 9m.

Now we are torn between leaving the garage open inside so that we have one large room or alternatively separating 3m at the back as a storage room with a passage, basically 6m x 6m garage + 6m x 3m storage room.

The garage is meant to house two cars, four bicycles, trash bins, car tires, lawnmower, a small workshop, and various small items...

The argument for separation is that the tools are not visible every time the garage door opens. The argument against separation is having one large room that can be used much more flexibly, e.g. also for parties.

What do you think?

I actually think that speaks more in favor of separation, because all the stuff that usually stands in the front part of the garage can simply be moved to the adjoining room (except for the cars, of course) and the party guests don’t have to look at it all evening.

Besides, you have two more walls that offer opportunities to hang things up or similar.

We will soon receive a concrete prefabricated garage 6 m long + an extension of 4 m. In between is a recess as a passage. We found the separately separated section tidier. The rear 4 m extension still has a small window and a door to the garden.

Why don’t you make a sketch and draw it to scale, including walkways and doors. Once with a wall and once without. Which is better also depends heavily on your usage, "a small workshop" can be interpreted very differently. Are the dimensions actually internal or external?

Hello,

We also have a 6x9 meter garage and it is not separated. It is a matter of taste and I feel I can use it better this way. You can always separate it later.

Best regards

If I were your pedantic neighbor now, I would say that you are not allowed to store any "stuff" in the garage anyway (Garagenordnung).

Of course, I wouldn't be able to see that if it is separated...
