to the original question: 1

the typical north-south plot (north street/driveway, south garden) makes many things so much easier. the typical houses are also aligned accordingly, front door in the north and living room in the south. (large windows in the south, while in the north next to the front door there is usually a utility room/guest toilet with small windows)
of course, other plots also work.

with 2 you have a neighbor on one side, and the street on the other. what should be better about that than 1? a meadow is usually somehow used, e.g. with animals or similar. if that is the case it might stay that way longer and you have a great free view. with 1 you can also have a terrace facing west, it just doesn’t make sense.

1 will probably be more expensive than 2, if not there’s really not much to consider.

the best plot purely from your drawing would be the bottom right, or if you really want a west-facing winter garden the bottom left. that way no one could look into your garden anymore.

What speaks against the other plots?

Will the roof ridge direction be predetermined as you have sketched? If so, I would also think about the room layout in the house: An entrance on the short side of the house will probably (depending on room requirements) result in a long corridor. Although this does not necessarily mean more square meters than an entrance on the long side, it looks quite different (often tube-like).
In my opinion, an entrance on the long side is only nice if it is on the north (or at least east) side, so that you do not block the sunny sides (south during the day, west in the evening, when most workers come home).
Whether one finds it nice to place the entrance to the north on plot 2, or whether that is too hidden, can be discussed.

Therefore, if the choice is free – and otherwise comparable soil conditions – I would, for example, take the plot directly above No. 2.

If it has to be 1 or 2, I would take 1. With 2, there is the risk that the development plan stipulates construction quite close to the southern plot boundary and that you have a larger area behind the house than in front. Although, of course, there are also people who prefer a shaded seating area in summer...

You can easily create shade on the south side with a parasol or covered terrace. However, you cannot have sun on the east side in the evening.

Hello dear ones,

Thank you for the various ideas. I have taken a lot of time with the response because it was unclear in the meantime whether we would even be offered a plot.

Now we are one step further because one of the two interested parties has dropped out. However, the first interested party has the right of choice. We will probably have to be satisfied with the "remaining" plot (or not).

I will report when things move forward again on this front. :-)
