Hello everyone, what alternatives to conventional tiles can you recommend? Long-term experiences would be particularly helpful. Or is there no way around the good old tile?

The walk-in showers are fully tiled. In the bathrooms, design flooring will be installed on the floor. At the bathtub, toilet, and sink, we actually did not want to put tiles. Our friendly painter advised against it and recommended tiles.
All the colors he knows would be glossy and would therefore differ from the rest of the wall areas.

With neighbors, the slope in the shower was not tiled. The shower is also brand new. There, the wall was only painted and according to their painter, that works. The wall was not glossy if I remember correctly.

Liquid concrete could be a solution. Have a look at e.g. Carament and similar!

The company Dold, for example, has such a system for seamless bathrooms. What I don’t quite understand: color / gloss always differs from the tiles, right? I would simply paint the entire remaining bathroom with the color or system. Then the gloss level or color difference doesn’t matter. In many areas, a good paint is sufficient and you don’t need a waterproof coating. We will, for example, do the shower cubicle in the guest bathroom with Dold. The rest with paint with a high wet abrasion class (also at the sink). It’s not like you flood the wall permanently...

Thank you for the feedback. I did not want to paint the entire bathroom, as the walls are supposed to remain "open." I do not want to seal the walls with paint and thereby promote poor air quality and mold growth in the bathroom.

There are corresponding colors for that. And it is a myth that walls breathe.
Don’t you have a ventilation system?
