Hello everyone,

we are currently in the final stages of our bathroom selection and are still stuck on the washbasin. We had actually already decided on the Scalido WTSC65WS washbasin because of its appearance without knowing the price, our plumber then just said: "you might as well buy a washbasin from the hardware store." Well, Scalido seems to be quite new, I can't find anything about the brand and the price at just under €170 is absolutely at the lowest end - but compared to the Laufen washbasin that is four times as expensive, we simply like it better.

Has anyone had any experience with Scalido and how badly am I risking it with the cheap washbasin? If in doubt, just €170 tuition fee..

Under the product number I find a washbasin. Did you mean that, or are you talking about a piece of furniture / base cabinet? The washbasin is made of sanitary ceramic, I don't think you can do much wrong if you like the look. With the furniture, that would certainly be something different.

I mean the washbasin, sorry, that wasn’t clearly formulated.
For whatever reason, the word Waschtisch is linked - that wasn’t me.
I also think that not much can go wrong. Of course, taste is always subjective.

Sanitary ceramics are usually very hard and easy-to-maintain materials. In many old bathrooms from the 70s, you can see super cheap sinks, and while everything around them has gone out of fashion (probably the sink too), there is nothing to complain about in terms of quality even after 50 years. Maybe the plumber said something like that because he is selling you the parts and would prefer to make a bit more money?

Whereas I might take the plumber at his word and ask if he would also install supplied materials. Because then you could get something "better" from the hardware store or Ikea. But he will probably back down there....

He won’t. We are building with a general contractor and the plumber earns the difference between his own price and the MSRP from the bathroom studio. But when I see how cheap various brand sinks are online, then that €175 Scalido sink can’t be that bad. This is once again one of those building decisions for which you simply waste too much time and thought..
