Rust stains on tiles - can something still be done about it?

Hello, I unfortunately caused damage to the tiles in a rental property. Where the metal shelves stood, there are rust stains. I have already treated them with a special spray. The reaction was impressive, but the result disappointing.

Does anyone perhaps have a tip for me?

What have you already tried? Common tips you find are citric acid / Vitamin C powder (because of ascorbic acid) or vinegar essence. Let it sit longer, repeat the application (if it got better but didn’t go away completely), or warming the surface is supposed to help as well. I found a video on YT where someone uses the spray from Mellerud and warms the tiles with a hairdryer beforehand. By the way, you should be careful not to get anything into the grout if avoidable. Edit: Is that even a normal tile? It looks like granite or something from the appearance.

What kind of material is this? Natural stone? It looks a bit like what we had in the stairwell of the rental apartment. The surface was very sensitive to acids. So I would be very careful with lemon juice and vinegar.

I also used this Mellerud. As I said, it didn't blow me away. The tiles are probably granite. I'm not an expert on that. I will also try with a hairdryer...

Yes, if it is possibly natural stone, you have to be careful with acid. However, there are special cleaners for rust on granite / natural stone & co.

There is an "HMK R777" - rust converter for hard rock, but it is only for acid-resistant surfaces. And an HMK R179 rust stain remover for soft rock. It is for acid-sensitive stones. You should look for it. But they are not cheap, about 20€ for a bottle.

Vinegar has proven effective on our terrace slabs/tiles. But pay attention to the substrate. Lithofin has special cleaners for many things, maybe take a look there.
