I admire anyone who has the motivation & skills to contribute as much own labor as you do. Above all, you have to be willing to also do this alongside work and potentially completely sacrifice vacations & free time.

Priming, wallpapering, painting, and laying laminate I believe anyone of us can do. And if the budget runs out faster than expected, I will do these as well. But the big bucks like shell construction, roof truss, windows, plumbing, tiles can be done by very few. Just what you saved on the roof truss is insane. Some bathrooms would also be at least 50% cheaper if they were made with own labor and internet prices.

Be that as it may, unfortunately I can't do it :-( and have to pay the prices that are offered to me.

My father has been a carpenter for over 30 years... the whole thing was managed by him and his boss, and we were able to help out.

I ordered the roof tiles myself. With my cousin (roofer) + father + friends, we built the entire roof battens + underlay in one day. Another day was then spent covering the roof completely. I personally pulled every tile up to the roof by cable winch (of course in packages)... that really makes you appreciate your roof a lot more

For the bathroom (washbasins, WC, shower enclosures, fittings) I ordered online and another cousin (heating/plumbing) installed it for me...

Heating / plumbing was handled normally through his company... he wouldn't have been able to do it alone as a self-performer... also better here because of the warranty etc. Plus, I always have someone quickly on hand who knows how everything was installed and is familiar with my system.

BTW: Yes, it cost me almost every Saturday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM over 4 months + 2 months parental leave...

Yes, if you time having children well, it is really worth its weight in gold!
