Hello,

Thermal bridges are not tied to the season. The same effect would be achieved with a ZSp insulation and partial internal insulation to mitigate the infill panel effect.

External rafter insulation

Hello €uro,

would you recommend the following insulation to me, based on the aforementioned topics?

LINITHERM PAL N+F - efficient thermal insulation for new buildings and for renovation of old buildings

LINITHERM PAL N+F has a double-sided, lacquered aluminum foil coating - glare-free and tear-resistant. It acts as a vapor barrier, reflects the radiant heat from the sun, and protects the occupants from electrosmog.

The super insulation material PUR/PIR rigid foam is an excellent thermal insulator not only in winter. In summer, the insulation also ensures that the heat stays outside. This way, you have a pleasant indoor climate all year round, even under the roof.

Thanks to the specially designed N+F clamping-press joint all around and the additional N+F tongue-and-groove joint on the long side, each installed element provides an immediately thermal bridge-free, airtight, and windproof underlay (cross joints to be sealed with joint tape). Even with complex roof landscapes, the robust edge profiles ensure efficient, economical installation.

Cut-offs created at dormers and valleys can be rotated and reused.

Thank you very much for your information.

Hello,

I would forgo a half story in exposed sunny locations and build 2 full stories, provided this is permitted by building regulations.
If the half upper floor and under-rafter insulation are chosen for whatever reasons, I would prefer products made of mineral wool.

Best regards.

Building regulation = gable roof

Hello €uro,

according to the building regulation and the submission plan, we are bound to the gable roof with about 30-40 degrees. For this, we have a knee wall of 120 cm and thus hardly any loss of space.
As already mentioned, we want to leave the beam work open and cover the rafters (outer area) with tongue and groove boards, followed by the above-rafter insulation. The roofer said that no additional foil is needed with the product "LINITHERM PAL N+F".

Why would you prefer rock wool?

Hello home builders,

I am a roofer and always offer our customers LINITHERM PAL N+F. Because it can be recommended with a clear conscience. I have it myself as well. And I have already roofed a roof where the rafters remained visible. The customer is 100% satisfied as are the others. Thanks to the aluminum on both sides, protection is provided in summer and winter. You only have to apply a foil for airtightness and connect everything airtight, otherwise no insulation makes sense. Foil is necessary but has only been mandatory since 2009 by Linzmeier due to the new energy saving regulation. So I would say you are on the right track. For all other problems, there is a solution from Linzmeier or from the roofer. If you have any questions about Linzmeier, just get in touch; I have gained a lot of good experience with it professionally and privately.

Construction

Hello Dachspezi,

thanks again for your expert opinion. That helps me a lot. How should the construction of the insulation/application of the foil look?

From inside to outside:

- Installation of tongue and groove boards on the rafters (outside)
- Then follows the airtight foil
- Insulation boards from Linzmeier LINITHERM PAL N+F
- Installation of the counter battens and roof battens
- Then the roof tiles

Is the construction like this OK?
