Renovating a half-timbered house - low ceiling heights, are there possibilities?

They are "like new". They were only... let me see... added in the 90s... and really in very good condition and great for tractors, trailers, buses, cars, motorcycles, workshops (wood and auto), game chamber... That's why we are even considering it. Well, if you can't stand a fridge upright in the kitchen, it doesn't matter that you aren't 2m tall, then it's simply hard to use. But even I hit my head on the door frames with my 1.74m. The man almost bumped his head everywhere on the ceiling at 1.87m.

Tinkering around a few centimeters here or there seems hardly sensible to me and you probably won’t get a reasonable living situation at a fair price there. Apparently, other people have already tried there and a price reduction in the currently positive market situation for sellers should be looked at precisely against that background.

Something like that would seem most feasible to me but that could be a real hot potato with probably a larger budget scope.

Correct, the market regulates the price

With ceilings that are too low in the half-timbered house, there is little to gain. The ideas that Tamstar had are, with manageable effort, what is possible. I would rather consider whether one could make or build something airier out of one of the outbuildings, perhaps gradually. I know buildings with similar height; they showed no real market value and changed owners more frequently. From the aspect of value retention, I would view that cautiously. Best regards Gabriele

The bank calls it a "collector's item" - to put it mildly. If you buy the hodgepodge and want to live in it, you should keep in mind that you will only avoid burning money if you renovate according to today's standards. The renovated house with 2m ceiling height + hodgepodge will not show any significant increase in value compared to the unrenovated state (so plan rather without major bank financing, but with a lot of equity). So buy it very conservatively, to grow old there, or come up with a solution involving the residential conversion of the outbuildings. You can take your time planning; it seems no one wants the house anyway.
