Remove the tiler and assign the work yourself or not?

We did it that way for the first time in 2001, accepting the house first and then awarding tiles, floors, bathroom, and walls. This created a clean separation. It was comparably expensive, but the execution and choice of materials were significantly better. I would only remove one trade if it does not require coordination effort between my provider and the house builder - so not from the middle.

.. and always remember baseboards etc., which are partially cut from the tiles if no genuine baseboard tiles from the respective manufacturer are offered. Just generally think about waste.

Thank you first of all for the numerous responses.

I would only re-award the trade if the savings are also significant, but not for possibly €1000-2000. Live and let live, carefully weigh effort and savings has been and remains my motto.

With a possible credit note, I actually see no problem since the trade is separately regulated in the contract with almost €17,000.

In the end, it depends on whether and what discount I get passed on due to the quantity and precisely the actual customer relationship between the company/tiler and the dealer.

What is really uncertain is the surcharge for additional effort, although with a 60x60cm tile, 0.36 sqm per tile are laid, and with the floor tile in 25x150cm, also "only" 0.375 sqm per tile are laid.

By the way, we do not want skirting boards made of tile; as with parquet, skirting boards made of wood (white) are to be installed. In the bathroom, this is also unnecessary due to the wall tiles.

€120 per sqm for a tiler in the Leipzig area seems daring to me. That may be the case in the West, but prices in the East are still different.

But as I said, I’m waiting for the official calculation and would contact you again here to review it.

I just don’t want to approach the matter naively.

The topic with the bathroom and the partly outrageous prices is still very much in my memory.

We are now paying around 80 euros/sqm including all materials except tiles, grout, and silicone. But we only have tiles in size 30x60.
By the way, the most expensive offer I found was 230 euros/sqm without invoice. In that case, I would have done it myself.

You can tell that you have never tried to lay tiles yourself (which is normal and okay) ;-)
The additional effort is not caused by the number of tiles taken out of the box, but mainly by the difficulty of aligning large-format tiles exactly flat and at the correct angle without hollow spots. The same applies, by the way, to narrower joints, if you're also considering that.

The smaller the tile, the easier it is. With your selection, it is almost no longer possible to do it purely by hand. For that, special tools/aids are needed.
All of this requires experience, skill, and a lot of time, and not only time is rightly money.

All right, thank you. That’s partly what a forum is for.
