Hello everyone,

we are currently building our single-family house and have recently finalized our kitchen. However, we are still unsure about one thing and I hope that you might be able to help us.

At the moment, we have planned a fridge-freezer combination as the refrigerator in the kitchen (we could still change that). But we had also planned a pure refrigerator with a 0-degree zone, which was then discarded again. What speaks from your point of view either for a pure refrigerator in the kitchen or for a fridge-freezer combination?

With a pure refrigerator, we would need a separate freezer again...

Thank you already.
Best regards

In the kitchen, we decided on a built-in fridge with a 0-degree zone. Inside is the typical fridge stuff and fruit. At the entrance, we also have a side-by-side with a 0-degree zone, freezer compartment, ice crusher (important), and cooling section. There are vegetables, drinks, and frozen goods in there. We had a niche with a water connection built for the side-by-side. 2 meters to the terrace area with the "Longue-ecke," there is refreshment available. Fruit and vegetables feel comfortable at similar temperatures but require different humidity. In the utility room (level -1, garden access), there is a freezer that we took along during the move; wild game goes in there if the hunter has any.

I think that could be made dependent on the number of people living in the household. My husband and I decided on a fridge-freezer combination (half/half), but for a family that would be too small for us. Furthermore, if we had a vegetable garden and wanted to freeze things more often. Basically, I also tend to prefer "smaller" and "less" with electrical appliances, if possible and practicable.

In my experience, it is like a basement. If you have one, you fill it with things that you then forget for years. If you don't have one, you constantly think about how practical it would be, but life is still worth living.

We are two. The guys next door use a freezer and each have their own fridge. It is pleasant when nothing is full.

I also agree that there must be order in the refrigerator. There are two of us, and we currently have a 70cm wide Bosch standalone with a freezer compartment at the bottom. I wouldn't want it any smaller. In the new house, maybe a nice big refrigerator will go in, and freezing, also large and well-organized, right next to it in the utility room. The goal is always to never completely fill the appliances if possible. We used to have the large Liebherr side-by-side in the dining room because there was no space in the kitchen; that was not a problem but rather nice to look at. So I would want both and in spacious versions. It also depends on your habits, whether you store frozen vegetables/fruits, meat, ice cream, etc.; a freezer can quickly become full.
