oh wow, then I think I have to build one myself. Unfortunately, I’m not good at welding.

I was thinking of a few flat steel stringers with angles on them to screw the steps onto. Maybe also a simple one-sided railing made of flat steel or square tube.

I hope you are well insured...

Is the staircase used more than once a year?
Then, as a layperson, I would stay away from it... It's not for nothing that welding courses don't last just half a Saturday afternoon.
Not to mention the statics of the staircase... (including the anchoring of the staircase to the ceiling).

Well, there are also ready-made stairs available online that stay within the budget, but they are correspondingly simple. Just try using the search engine for that....

Is there a reason why it is not allowed to cost more? Apart from the safety of the certainly simple railing, do you like something like that?

Hello Theodorius,

in principle, such stairs with simple flat steel stringers are easy to design. Even for the smaller metal workshops, however, it will hardly fit the budget.

But please remember that the stringers start to swing horizontally quite a bit when you span them freely over this length. This is underestimated far too often! Here, either securely anchor them on one side to a wall or provide a round bar assembly with a turnbuckle! Alternatively, have stringers made from U-profiles.

And personally, I don’t find a railing made of square tubes particularly attractive, even with our industrial railings, but that is your desired look.

Do you have children in the house or are any planned soon? There is nothing worse than an industrial railing that kids can use as a climbing frame. They can always fall over the top or under the knee rail!!

Our staircase from the upper floor to the attic (wood/wood), open stringer (no closed space under the stairs) will cost approximately €3000 including installation and VAT.

Our exterior staircase (steel/steel) with landing and stainless steel handrail will also cost approximately €3000 (net) (excluding foundations).

Instead of the perforated steel steps with a 30/10 grid, WPC was also offered to us. That would have meant a significant surcharge. For €1500, probably no one does that.
