Hi, it has meanwhile been built over and also rented out. Unfortunately, I don’t have a picture of the original "construction condition". I took rough-sawn larch wood of about 5cm thickness (estimated) from the local sawmill and picked it up myself (there were wood chips all over the car...). I know it still holds up well and that was more than 10 years ago. Everything on the terrace made of spruce/fir has rotted (and has since been replaced with larch).

Glue-in dowels as suggested by @Norlys are probably not effective in BSH (glulam)? Other dowels approved for BSH are of course possible. I just wouldn’t want to deal with it...

Better to replace the railing fasteners every 15 years

ok, that would now be the most unstable solution for me. There, the railing is connected to the BSP wooden wall by a threaded rod, but under the load on a railing, for example from wind pressure, the whole thing can move slightly over the distance of 20cm (insulation layer) since there is no positive fit. The solution I had in mind was this one: Here, a thick sleeve is used to transfer loads from the railing almost unhindered to the solid wood wall. Because if this is not possible, then the plaster at these points will never remain sealed due to minimal play. And with wood fiber insulation, I especially do not want any contact between the wood fiber insulation and water on the weather side.

You have two options. Attach the railing in the wall or on the terrace. You have to decide. In the [WDVS], every! attachment will always have to bridge the insulation.

The manufacturer (Schlosser) of the railing will surely be able to advise you as well. I would always install such a sleeve system directly into the wall. Otherwise, I would be afraid that it might break off at the floor if an adult person were to fall heavily against it.

If working with the ETICS, then use 2 sleeves stacked on top of each other to eliminate the "lever": Maybe even anchor it additionally to the coating ;). Then the lever is indeed also at the top, but the pivot point is different so that the sleeve at the bottom is only "pressed in" instead of "bent".
