Radiator in the new building?

Thank you very much, Euro!

As I said, we are still in the idea phase. We have not spoken to any developer or TGA planner or anything else yet. We are certainly still about two years away from that. First of all, we want to set our priorities a little more precisely, and since we have two small children, both working again, a nanny / AuPair is currently being discussed with us. At least the second one would need their own room, well, and the list can be endlessly continued. Therefore, we will definitely wait another two years and then see how our life situation has developed by then.

You asked why only gas. I thought that was the only sensible option for the operation of radiators. Pellet or oil would be difficult since we are not planning a basement. And for heat pumps, I thought underfloor heating was necessary for efficient operation.

And yes, we always have all doors and windows open. However, only during the period in which the heating is completely turned off anyway. Currently, only the hot water operation is running. And from approximately October, the heating will be turned on again, and then all windows and doors will be closed again, and then we will have a ventilation problem again - at least I assume so in a new building. In our current rental house, our window ventilation is sufficient even in winter, although we only carry it out quite rarely. So I don’t know what "not under control" is supposed to mean. Until now, in every rental apartment and now rental house, according to the overview of our energy supplier, we have been well below the average value of all households in their area. I do believe that we use energy quite sparingly. And my concern is that, for example, radiators will no longer be installed precisely because they are so much less efficient than underfloor heating. But that is just a concern that you are welcome to take away from me.

Perlemann - do you have a central ventilation system or a decentralized one?

I hadn't even noticed that DerDa mentioned the last 3 months, then 35€ would indeed be so-so again. May and April were already okay in terms of temperature levels. March, on the other hand, was actually a real winter month this year with temperatures below -10C, at least in northern Germany

He does write that he has been living in the house for 3 months. Presumably, the screed drying is still included. I have central ventilation; I would only use decentralized to retrofit. I imagine it to be problematic with an air filter/noise and heat recovery.

I don’t know what the weather was like where you are, but we had severe subzero temperatures until mid-April. And well, May rarely got above 10 degrees, at night always around freezing point. I looked at the sun photos from the north with envy.... We had rain, gray, rain, gray gray gray. I should maybe add that we live in the Rhine valley, so it doesn’t get as cold in winter as maybe in the Allgäu or the Swabian Alb. That’s why these values are enough for me to roughly extrapolate. Let it be 50 € per month in the end.... That’s nothing, because we heat a lot, and also very high, since we have a newborn that shouldn’t always be wrapped in 5 layers. The 12,000 € was the additional cost for the system we have now. No idea how the prefab house provider calculated that, I don’t really care anyway, since the offer was without alternative. Heating was one of the things you weren’t allowed to outsource, unless you had ordered a shell house. Our solar water heating system probably collected energy 5-6 times this year, because of west orientation.... And there simply haven’t been more sunny days yet. We also have a wood stove, which we might have used about 10 times during that period. But more for fun than for heating. We even had to open the windows because otherwise it would have gotten too hot. Again, I’m not trying to convince anyone of our decisions, everyone has to make their own. I like simple technology, and in any case, we had to have a gas connection installed in the house (which ended up costing 1400 €) because we also cook with gas. Although that is negligible in terms of gas consumption. Just in case a wrong impression arises here.

But that's the point: You write that you use €35! Period, end of story! Not what conditions you have. If you were that cold, OK, but then I want to see a real winter! Furthermore, you write that you had no choice regarding the heating and that the €12k was on the table. First, you (neither do I) can compare it, and second, there are costs included (€1400 for the gas connection and probably several thousand for the solar system) which means it’s not €12k but significantly under €10k.

This is not meant to be offensive, but unfortunately I sometimes notice that, and then I find it distorts the whole thing considerably!

For example, I "had to" choose a heat pump because I neither had enough space on the roof for solar nor wanted extra insulation. Therefore, I also have no idea what alternatives would have cost me. Sometimes it’s just that simple to make a decision.

And @Königsbiene: If you really only get to this topic in a few years, the world might look different again by then?

@Perlenmann: you are right. In two years the world will look completely different again and we will probably have completely different demands, ideas, and so on and so forth. But you never know what will come... sometimes everything happens faster than expected (especially because we can well imagine building it and "only" our mind says we should wait a little longer). And just in case, I prefer to be vaguely informed rather than helpless, naive, and clueless being at the mercy of the construction company. It’s probably nonsense, I know. But it’s also just fun to plan and dream at least for now. When it gets concrete and the 400,000€ is on the table, I will probably only be scared and anxious...
