Hello everyone!

We are building this year and since we have always watched cable TV in the rental apartment until now, I have no idea about Sat-TV or the wiring in the house. We want to watch TV via a Sat system in the future, but still want to have a cable connection installed to use telephone and internet via cable. So far, so good!

But how do I have to imagine the wiring in the house? Assuming the Sat system including wiring costs me 1 TEUR from our prefabricated house provider, then I have to pay again for the cable wiring, right? Cables must also be laid from the distribution box in the basement to the rooms where I then plug my WLAN router into the multimedia socket (I think that's what the thing from [Kabel BW] is called)...

Or am I completely wrong now? I hope you can help me!

Thanks!

For cable TV, no additional cables are needed, simply use the SAT cable that is then not required. However, the reverse does not work. We do it this way too, cable for telephone/internet and sat for television. Then we can switch at some point (additionally, we also had a Telekom connection installed).

Hi both types of reception work with coaxial cables that are compatible with each other. However, the signals must not be on the same cable at the same time. But that's not a problem, since the cables are routed to different locations. For the cable connection for telephone and internet, you need a cable from the house entry point to the desired location for the telephone base station and router. Modern routers can also function as telephone base stations simultaneously. Whether this is possible with a cable connection, you have to check. If not, you’ll just have two devices instead of one, which is the case for most people.

The satellite wiring looks a lot more complicated. Usually, a star wiring topology is used, meaning there is an individual cable from the dish or the LNB mounted there to each TV and recording device. For example, my TV has a built-in satellite receiver and thus its own cable, and the hard disk receiver connected to the TV has two receivers and therefore gets two separate cables, which makes 3 cables at this location already. The apartment below has only one receiver and therefore one cable, making a total of 4 cables. Recently, there is also the possibility to convert the satellite signal to IP, i.e. LAN cable. How this works, you can read on Astra’s homepage, so I don’t have to write myself silly here. For my new place, I am considering doing exactly that.

Thank you already for the answers!

We will also have a Telekom connection installed if it is already dug up anyway...
It sounds as if there are no additional costs due to Sat-TV and cable telephone/internet (purely from the wiring perspective).
I'm curious to see what Kabel BW will charge for laying the cable connection!

398.00 € including 10 m excavation work if you simultaneously conclude a 1-year internet contract. Otherwise, nearly 1000€ The prices apply only for a smooth process... if something comes up, additional hours will be charged... the price list can be found online.

Do you happen to know how it works with an existing contract? We currently already have a contract for internet and phone in our rental apartment!
