Hello dear house building forum, I have been reading your really constructive advice and tips for some time now. We are also about to realize our house. It was really not easy for us (my wife and me) to settle on a floor plan. But now we have, I think from our perspective, a good floor plan that fits nicely on the plot, only my wife does not want to "stare" at the stairs from the dining area. Do you have any idea how we can integrate the stairs differently or better into the floor plan? Brief data: 4 persons 1.5 stories with basement PS: the entrance will still be rotated towards the driveway.

Why not? Basically, one should consider before planning whether they want an open staircase or not. In the first case, you consciously design a visually appealing staircase that you actually enjoy looking at. In the second case, the planning approach is different. Surely, one could still add a wall, but it would diminish the beautiful design. Therefore, I advise your wife to take the seat opposite the window ;)

Hello,

A staircase with a landing is a highlight in a house! It is expensive and doesn’t need to hide, or rather should naturally belong to the interior ;)

With 11.00 x 9.00 m you either have the chance with a straight staircase to place it as a design element in the center of the building. But then you have it in your field of view again, or at least its enclosure. Or you place it at the edge, then you basically buy yourself long corridors. By the way, every type of staircase affects the roof/upper floor.

He is only human and only as creative as you allow him to be ;)

Rhenish regards

Well, in the end you can just put up a wall, for example with a large glass double door or a glass sliding door. And then turn the stove into the room...

But then it’s no longer an open ground floor, but closed instead. It’s just a question of what you want.

Otherwise, you can hide the stairs, for example with a nice plant to the left of the door from the hallway or install nice decorations under the stairs so it looks cozy.

But if you have a great, beautiful wooden staircase, then that looks super. Maybe matching the floor if you also want a wood (look) floor?

I don't find the design uncreative. Although much is missing for a proper assessment, the ground floor seems relatively coherent. Of course, one can criticize, but I particularly like the staircase. Straight staircases are currently having their hype in the era of urban villas; for that, I find straight staircases with landings timelessly stylish and very comfortable. And they have the advantage that you can bring a design object into the house even with simple materials. A straight staircase made of simple materials, for example, just beech wood, gives me a country house charm. You also have to imagine the descent here: downwards with a view into the garden and in front of it the spacious dining area. Maybe you can integrate a 1.60-meter-high wall between the fireplace and the staircase?

Thank you in advance for the answers, how does it look visually if the staircase is not built in an open style but enclosed (up to the handrail) and below the stairs to the basement a door is installed. Does that look good visually or rather awkward?
