Hello everyone,

We are currently in the middle of bathroom planning and are still undecided whether to use tiles or an alternative for the shower and walls. The lady quite likes this gray plaster (see picture). I suspect it is some kind of mineral plaster?

Does anyone have experience with it and can report something about

- Maintenance?
- Costs?
- Installation compared to tiles?
- Durability?

Thanks in advance,

Regards, Chris

This will be a full-surface tile.
Cost: unaffordable for me, but also disproportionate.

Agreed, the image appears to show a tile. However, there is also seamless material with acrylic content for application on walls and floors. We had considered that, but then discarded it because we didn’t want plastic.

That can be a large tile or a wall panel in concrete look, e.g. made of Aludibond. Also possible is a sealed decorative plaster, e.g. Beton Cire with sealing. Or simply real exposed concrete with sealing.

I also think that it is a large format tile.
Regarding the costs: Such a large format tile costs
240 x 120cm 700€
320 x 160cm 1000€
fully installed. (with cutting / holes and installed by the tiler.
For the remaining costs such as fittings/ shower head/ bathtub, the costs are completely acceptable.

I would also suspect that the picture shows a tile. We installed "Beton Ciré" in the shower. It is a cement-based filler that is waterproof from 2-3mm thickness. Works flawlessly. Costs are hard to quantify. The material can be found for ~50€/m² online, but the application is - depending on the desired look - not quite trivial. Professional companies wanted around 250€/m² turnkey, so it's roughly on par with large format tiles.
