Our terrace measures 7m x 4m. The roofing is 6m x 7m and we are also thrilled and enjoy the added value.

The main reason for the patio roof was the possibility to comfortably sit outside with several people in the summer (the terrace faces south) without having to set up 5 umbrellas. Above all, we and our circle of friends all have small children and shade is very important!

We also have an under-roof awning and 3 vertical awnings. Such a patio roof does cost a lot of money, but it was worth it to us.

A terrace depth of 3.5m would probably work too, but 4m is more relaxing. However, it all depends on future usage.

The roof is larger than the terrace in one direction?

We have a 4.5m x 7m canopy, also an under-roof awning and vertical awnings. However, we could have basically saved the latter, as the 4.5m deep under-roof awning is enough for everyone at the table to sit shaded in the summer.

With children, such a large shaded area is also priceless, especially during these extremely sunny phases. At 40 degrees, they even prefer being in the paddling pool under the shade rather than in the blazing sun. We dealt with the hassle of sun umbrellas for a year; that's too annoying for me.

Oops.... typo. I meant 6m x 4m.... 6m x 7m would already be double carport size.....

It’s something different whether you sit openly or covered. I say: everyone has to decide for themselves. I do it like when eating. When sunbathing, rather topless. Our roofing is a reed mat and provides more coziness than protection. It’s also not above the patio door, because I like to see the sky from inside. With roofing, that wouldn’t be possible. I would only want a patio roof because of the furniture and décor, but that’s not proportionate in terms of price.

You can see the sky through your window but not through a glass roof... Interesting
