Dear forum members,

We have been living in our new house for 3 weeks now, where we feel very comfortable.
Now the days are getting longer again and we are looking at earth mounds. The driveway is not done yet either.

We want to cover the driveway with gravel. For this, we already have a compacted base. The outlines are already fixed and must be framed by a professional.
The house edging should also be made of gravel, about 1 meter wide and serve as a path.
The garage is already in place, the carport is planned next to the house (east).

Now I would like to collect ideas. Maybe some of you have spontaneous ideas before we realize our well-established plans?
-> Wind protection, privacy screen, terrace(s), vegetation

In the attachment you can see our 650 sqm plot. North is at the top. Don’t be confused by the dimensions. In the east there is about 4.5 meters width, in the west about 6 meters. In the south we have about 13 meters.
All displayed windows (except those in the north) and the middle one on the east (kitchen) are terrace windows.
We are planning several seating areas, for example there is a small outdoor sofa as well as 2 small granite benches. There is also, of course, the obligatory table with 6 chairs and two loungers and two iron chairs. We don’t need a children’s swing or similar anymore.
A modern flair is desired, but not just boxwood and bamboo. It can be a bit more, I also wanted potatoes.
Whether we do a terrace roof depends on the costs, maybe an awning?

I would be happy if you could take a little time

Oh, I see... forgot: The plot is located in the new development area, the houses to the east and west are about 10 meters away, to the south a gravel path is being laid (school path for the little ones). Because of this, the southern houses (bungalows) are somewhat distant.

Hi,

so: I understand you want ornamental and vegetable gardens (potatoes...). How about a play garden? So, space for children to romp around? That quickly takes up a lot of space.
Do you have a garage and carport? Or are those two different options that have been considered?

- I would put the terrace in the southwest corner of the house. What is Room 2? Does it disturb the other terrace?
- Additional seating areas:
-- Behind the garage, in connection with part of the ornamental garden
-- In the southwest corner
- Layout:
-- Ornamental garden on the west side of the garage up to the terrace (of course also in front of the garage).
-- Play garden in the southwest corner of the property from the terrace
-- Herb garden in front of the kitchen on the east side
-- Vegetable garden either the south side as a strip or the southeast side.

I would roughly sketch this as a draft plan. Then check the development plan to see what is required (often somehow 1-2 large-crowned trees per parking space...) and roughly arrange these objects.

I would shield the south side facing the path with a hedge, it's far enough from the terrace to prevent shading.
The east side can be more open, on the terrace side: a privacy screen wouldn't hurt.

Best regards

Michael

Thank you very much, Michael,

I am shocked to find that the room naming (as far as it can be read) is not correct. Northwest is our guest-work/sports room, southwest is living, south is dining, and southeast is the kitchen.

We have a garage and carport. The garage is already there, the driveway was stipulated in the development plan.
We only play for big kids - that means for us (Ü40 and Ü50) and only us, so a utility garden, yes

Do you have an idea for large-crowned trees?

Your ideas touch a lot on our ideas, except for the terrace: We see the main exit in the south/southeast, possibly a lounge or something in the west?

How would you separate the utility garden from the ornamental garden?
Should the garden be arranged more square or oval/round???????????

Thank you very much,
Yvonne

Hi,

Expecting grandchildren anytime soon? My parents have completely redesigned the garden again.

Why do you want to place the terrace on the southeast corner?

Do you have to plant large-crowned trees? If yes, it’s probably also specified what you have to/may plant. Then it’s really just about personal taste. If allowed and a utility section is already planned, I would also choose a fruit tree. Plum, apple, cherry according to taste.

If the terrace southeast is fixed: then of course also place the ornamental garden on that side. The vegetable garden then rather on the west side. The front up to the garage, of course ornamental as well. To separate: a small hedge. Or as a transition maybe shrubs like gooseberry or currants. Maybe also an idea: espalier fruit trees.

Best regards

Michael
