Hello,

we are now at the stage of the factory planning where only the position of the ceiling spots needs to be determined. Halox ceiling boxes 180 are to be installed in the precast concrete ceilings. We are now a bit puzzled in the kitchen.
We are planning a kitchen unit of 4m, which includes a niche 1.80 m wide with wall cabinets. In the bottom of the wall cabinets, we have planned LED spots, so the work surface there should be sufficiently illuminated. In front of the unit, at a distance of 1.20m, there is a kitchen island 3.00m wide and approx. 1.20m deep.
We now have the idea to plan 8 spots above the kitchen island (2 rows of 4 with a spacing of 60cm). To illustrate better, I have attached a picture. In your opinion, is that sufficient as overall kitchen lighting or should additional spots be planned, especially in the passage between the unit and the island?

Since the spots including drilling, material, installation cost about €250 each (installation of the boxes alone approx. €120 gross), we naturally want to keep the number to a minimum. Regarding the choice of recessed spots (beam angle, etc.), we are completely open...

For my feeling, 4 spots are enough for the island. I definitely find 8 too many.

8 above the island is also way too much for me. However, I find the rest of the kitchen otherwise poorly lit. The tall cabinets then do not get any light at all. The "walkways" as well.

The cooktop goes on the countertop, I assume? Downdraft extractor?

I would rather consider equipping the walkways with built-in lights and the island with something else. Pendant light(s), for example.

Fully agree – and don’t be stingy with the walkway lighting. Ideally, the lighting in the kitchen should not be perceived as isolated spots of light.

2k€ for the lighting in the kitchen is quite a statement. That would be way too expensive for me. I would rather go for 2 panels at €200 each...

Hi,

I just placed the cans for the ceiling spots in the ground floor ceiling last week. Halox100 would suffice (usually cost only half).

I can't really imagine the kitchen in your picture, so take the advice with caution, but I think 8 spots is way too many. We will take one or two LED panels in the center for the work lighting and have the spots only because it looks nice...
